Do you ever feel little? Like you are personally little and have little to offer to God or to anyone? Or what you have to offer seems insignificant compared to what you see others offering? Are you willing to offer the little you have anyway?
I’ve struggled with this feeling of little many times in my life. I didn’t believe what I had to offer was worth anything. What a shame I’ve believed this lie. Sometimes because of that belief, I decided not to offer what I had.
Do you ever feel this way? Do you feel like you don’t have much to offer to God or to others? When you look at your life, talents, abilities, finances, whatever it is you possess, do you ever feel it’s so tiny, it wouldn’t make a difference anyway even if you offered it?
The tiniest offering can become the most blessed offering. When we take what we have and offer it to God, He can turn it into more than we could ever imagine.
Three Women, Three Blessings
I’ve been thinking about people in the Bible who had little and what we can learn from their stories. There’s the woman who owned only one jar of oil (2 Kings 4:1-7), the woman who offered two small coins worth less than a fraction of a penny (Mark 12:41-44), and the woman who poured her one bottle of perfume on Jesus’ head (Matthew 26:6-13).
All three women had little to offer, but the little they did have God turned into huge blessings.
The woman who only had one small jar of oil, God turned into many jars of oil. So much so that after she sold the oil she was able to pay off all her debt, not lose her sons to slavery, and live on the rest of the money.
Jesus Himself commended the woman with two small coins worth less than a fraction of a penny. He told His disciples that what she gave was worth far more than what anyone else put into the offering.
The woman who poured her one jar of perfume on Jesus’ head shocked everyone. In fact, the disciples were indignant with her. But Jesus’ response demonstrated the significance of her offering when He said, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.” (Matthew 26:10)
If God can transform the little these three women had into huge blessings, He can do the same for us. We just have to be willing to offer what we have like they were willing. It is written in 2 Corinthians 8:12, “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.”
What do you have to offer that perhaps you’ve believed is too little to make a difference? Are you willing to offer the little you have to Jesus? He’s not expecting us to offer anything we do not have, but I know He wants us to be willing to offer what we do have.
For too many years, I didn’t offer my words of encouragement to others. I felt my words of insight and understanding would not make a difference when there were already so many people writing books and speaking about Jesus. Then one day, God got ahold me and revealed His truth. He exposed the lie that the little I had wasn’t worthy of offering.
Now, even though I’m a little fish in the pond, I willingly offer my words of encouragement because it’s what I have to offer. What Jesus teaches me, I share with you.
The little we have to offer may seem insignificant. Friend, this is not true. God loves our little offerings.
I have little hands, and yet I use these little hands to write words of encouragement to you. Little hands do not mean little impact. Little offerings do not mean little impact either. We do not get to decide the impact our little offerings have on the world. We offer and God decides the impact.
Challenge to Offer What You Have
Every day, when we rise, let’s be willing to offer whatever gifts have been given us. Let’s choose to bless others and glorify God. His economy is quite different than man’s economy as we’ve seen by the three women’s offerings.
Take a chance today, look at what you have, and decide to offer it today. Pray that God would bless your offering in the way that only He can. Every little bit offered can make a big impact. God can do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine.
Are you willing to offer the little you have?
