I’m a mom. I’ve spent years making sure my eyes were on all of my children. I needed to see them. In fact I used to tell them I had eyes on all sides of my head. I think to this day, they may actually still believe me. 🙂
My eyes were always scanning a room or a park or a store. Whenever I took my children out somewhere, my eyes were always looking for them, making sure I saw them, making sure they were safe, making sure they were doing what was right, making sure to catch them if they caused trouble, and making sure they were always within my reach.
Should one start to wander off, I’d see and then I’d dash out and bring him or her back into the safe zone.
I don’t think you need to be a parent to understand, although parents do have an insiders’ view to what it means to keep an eye on their children. Caregivers (teachers, daycare providers, babysitters) of all kinds do this all the time too.
Caregivers keep their eyes on the children.
So it is with our Lord Jesus. He keeps His eyes on us.
Jesus is The Seer.
The Lord’s eyes are always on His children. He searches for us.
For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Sometimes I think we forget this fact. I believe we don’t think that Jesus sees us. So we may choose to do something not so nice. Okay, let’s face it, sometimes we are mean to others with our words, actions, and thoughts. I don’t think we remember Jesus sees us.
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good (Proverbs 15:3).
Sometimes I think we think God actually doesn’t see us. Have you ever been in a season of life where you actually asked God, “Do you see me? Do you see what’s going on?”
He does see us.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer (1 Peter 3:12a).
Jesus sees every single step we take.
For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps (Job 34: 21).
We may forget sometimes that Jesus is The Seer, but He never forgets to watch over us.
The Lord watches over you (Psalm 121:5).
Jesus is The Seer.
Jesus instructs, teaches, and counsels us with His eyes on us.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you (Psalm 32:8).
One the blessings in knowing Jesus is The Seer is that we know we’re always being cared for even if it doesn’t feel like it, even if we think He’s not watching, even when we do wrong.
Like my children were when they were little ones, and I kept my eyes on them, so it is even more so with our Lord Jesus. He never takes His eyes off of us. His eyes are in every place. I think He really may have eyes on all sides of His head.
This Advent season may you remember the eyes of the Lord Jesus are on you. He’s watching your every step. May you feel Him strengthen, instruct, and counsel you. May you truly believe He actually sees you because He does. He’s watching over you always.
